5 Spectacular Christmas Lights Displays in Texas Hill Country

You’ll find 5 of the best and brightest Christmas Lights displays in the Texas Hill Country near the centrally located town of Llano, TX: Starry Starry Nights here in Llano, Marble Falls Walkway of Lights, Johnson City Lights Spectacular, Fredericksburg Holiday Lights, and San Saba Mill Pond Christmas Extravaganza. They are highlighted on lists including Best Christmas Lights in Texas and the SouthwestWide Open Country’s 12 of the Best Christmas Lights Displays in Texas,TripSavvy’s Texas Hill Country Christmas Lights Trail and Events, and The Austinot’s  9 Must See Texas Hill Country Holiday Light Trails.  Driving times from Llano  to these great holiday light displays ranges from 30 to 45 minutes. A loop that includes 4 of the Christmas Lights displays to the south and east of Llano takes about 2 ¼ hours of driving time. San Saba, the fifth town, is 30 minutes north of Llano.

Each of the three unique guest rooms in our vintage 1870s farmhouse is furnished with 21st century amenities including a kitchenette, patio, private bath, Wi-Fi, and a flat-screen TV.
 
Cross the bridge from the bed and breakfast to Badu Park, where thousands of colorful Christmas lights reflect along the Llano River at Starry Starry Night. Enter the lighted archway to see more than 100 displays created from over 1,000,000 sparkling lights. Sip hot chocolate as you stroll along the river.It’s Texas, so look for cowboys greeting you with “ Merry Texmas, Ya’ll”,  riding a bucking bronco, and playing a guitar by a campfire. There’s Santa’s Express train, a stagecoach pulled by horses, and Santa with his sleigh and reindeer flying above. You’ll see children’s toys like a jack-in-the-box and rocking horse, cute animals, patriotic displays, as well as angels, doves, and other symbols of the season. You’re invited to visit Starry Starry Night from 6-9 pm every evening from November 29 – December 31, 2019. Santa will stop by to visit Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 – 8 pm.

Over 2 million lights are used to create 400 lighted sculptures in Lakewood Park along Lake Marble Falls. The Marble Falls Trail of Lights shines from 6-10 pm every evening between November 22, 2019, and January 1, 2020. Lakewood Park in Marble Falls is 37 miles from Llano. 
 
To the south of Marble Falls, you’ll find the Johnson City Lights Spectacular – what Wide Open Country calls one of the best Christmas light displays in Texas. The Blanco County Courthouse and surrounding trees sparkle with 100,000 white lights from November 29, 2019 – January 5, 2020. Across the street, the Pedernales Electric Cooperative decorates with over a million lights. Horse drawn carriage rides are available Thursday – Sunday evenings. Johnson City is located about 45 miles from Llano, or 22 miles beyond Marble Falls.
 
Although Fredericksburg does not host a holiday light park, there are many beautiful light displays in the picturesque town, including ones that reflect its German heritage. At Marktplatz, the heart of the community, you’ll find a hand-carved, 26-foot tall, lighted wooden German Christmas Pyramid as well as a Christmas tree. Facades and store windows along Main Street sparkle festively from November 29, 2019, to January 5, 2020.  December 6, 2019, there’s the Light the Night Christmas Parade and Afterglow with live entertainment, local wines and foods, and holiday shopping around Marktplatz. Fredericksburg is less than 40 miles from Llano, and about a 30 minute drive west from Johnson City if you are visiting holiday displays on a loop from Llano.
 
The Dancing Lights of Mill Pond Park – Christmas Extravaganza uses more than one million lights to create holiday displays synchronized to seasonal music. You can walk or drive through the 30 acre park with display that includes tunnels and digitally-animated scenes. San Saba Christmas Lights dance from November 30, 2019, to January 5, 2020. Hours: Dusk – 10 pm, Sundays – Wednesdays, and Dusk – 11 pm Thursdays – Saturdays. San Saba is a half hour drive north of Llano.

They even stock tins of hot chocolate mix to remind you of your stroll along the river at Starry, Starry Night. Nearby Whimseys at the Bridge also specializes in fun vintage finds.   • For wine lovers, there’s the Christmas Wine Affair, a Texas Hill Country Wine Trail from November 19 – December 15, 2019. Forty-eight wineries, including several near Llano, deck the cellars and offer holiday cheer.
  • December 7, 2019, Llano celebrates more bright lights with its Lighted Christmas Parade around the courthouse square and its annual Holiday Home Tour.
  • December 14, 2019, it’s Snow Day at Badu Park when winter comes to Llano! There’s sledding and snowman building from 1 – 9 pm.  Saturday afternoon, you can come in from the cold to see Lisa Lane’s Christmas Show at the Llano Country Opry.
